Embrace your shake

The Shake – Neil McCoy

Diagnosed: May 25,2012 Video date: May 09, 2023

Most Parkies

seem to be embarrassed

by their tremor or shake.

My question, is why?

Embrace them

For as the song says,

“Mother Nature

Makes no mistakes!”

The Shakes

Brings opportunities

Brings Awareness

To talk about Parkinson’s

To inform

The uninformed !

It brings Parkinson’s

Out of the shadows

Potential

Cures and Treatments

Have been Discovered

for other diseases,

By much less.

SO

“Shake it real funky

Shake it real low

Shake it ’til you can’t shake it no more

It’s a natural attraction

Mother nature wouldn’t make a mistake

What really turns me on

Is the shake”

Such opportunities

Have presented

Themselves to me.

The very first occasion

Was my experience

at the Lowes renovation center.

Being approached

By that young boy

Who inquired

“Why are you shaking?”

Me answering

“Because I’ve have, Parkinson’s.”

And his response

“ Is that like having,

A Super Power!”

That “Super Power “

Instilling confidence

In my understanding

of the disease,

Allowing me

The confidence

To mention my Parkinson’s

In non Parkinson’s

Situations.

Situations such as

When I was presenting

At Hockey Canada or

Saskatchewan Hockey

events.

I would tell everyone

That if they noticed o

Me shaking,

It was because

Of my Parkinson’s.

However, as I pointed

My shaking finger

At them

I stated

“It does allow me the be

More Emphatic, when

Talking to them.”

At one of these events

During my power point

Presentation

My tremor kept

Hitting the mouse,

Advancing all the slides

Of the Presentation

In a matter of seconds.

I looked up

At the coaches,

And stated,

“ well that is everything

About Goaltending.

Are there any questions?”

However ,

talking Parkinson’s

to a group of Parkies,

Can instill a false sense

Of confidence.

When I was doing

a presentation To a

Parkinson’s support group

I looked out

at the crowd

They all seemed

to be shaking their heads

in agreement

To every word

I uttered!

I was a

“SUCCESS!”

Or so I thought,

It seemed I was talking

To a group of Parkies

Suffering from

Dyskinesia !

So as you

Move forward with

YOUR Parkinson’s

Don’t fret about Shaking

Be proud

Of how you are

Coping with ,

Your Parkinson’s

Shake with pride

“Shake it real funky

Shake it real low

Shake it ’til you can’t shake it no more

It’s a natural attraction”

Have fun and be a warrior
