As you read this remember this competition we are in against Parkinson’s is a marathon not a sprint,

May we meet someday soon at the finish line. Crossing it together, hand in hand.

The Festinating 10 metre Sprint

We welcome you to the official first running of

The Festinating 10 Metre Sprint

(For Parkies 10 years and up)

one of the track worlds most anticipated events!

Parkie athletes from around the world gathered to partake in the inaugural Festinating 10 metre Sprint.

There’s a nip in air, for the 9AM starting time.

The start was to be 8AM however a few of the athletes had difficulty with completing the shoe lace tying portion of the pre race warmup.

And therefore we now have a 9:00 AM starting time.

I’ve never seen so many athletes so finely tuned.

It seems Dystonia rules the day!

However, let’s not forget we wouldn’t be here without our most visible supporter for Parkinson’s,

Bradykinesia

The athletes are starting to approach the starting line .

One would never know the excitement, the intense stress they must be under?

Their facial expressions completely void of any emotion,

Let’s give you a short run down on the course.

The course is 10 metres long .

Virtually a straight line.

However with Urinary issues being prevalent amongst people with Parkinson’s there are strategically placed porta potties every 2 metres.

One thing we do know,

There have been many sleepless nights leading up to this classic race.

Our pre race favourites are either the 2 or 3 racers.

They just seem to be the only racers of the four contestants that are in a Prime situation for success.

And the athletes are toeing the line.

The official race starter is a fellow Parkie of many years.

The racers are at the line

On mark

get set

Go

Opps we appear to have a false start.

It appears not one of the participants could hear the starters voice.

Looks like they going to have to bring in a starters pistol.

This puts a lot more pressure on the poor starter.

For if he doesn’t bring his voice volume up to a proper decibel for the restart.

It looks like he will be shot!

So the contestants are back up at the starting line.

Take your mark

Get Set

Go

And we have a good start!

No one has actually left the line yet but racer 1 and racer 2 both appear to have their right knees twitching .

which means some sort of movement will soon occur.

Whoa!

out of no where, the number 3 racer has bolted out to an early 4 shuffle lead!

Racer 1 still in place twitching his right knee.

However, racer 2 seems to be disoriented and is now facing the other direction.

Racer 4 seems to be using his voice, commanding him to use his steps and to land on his heels.

Wow this has given him a huge lead.

He’s almost at the 5 metre pole.

Oh no!

There seems to be an issue?

He has to visit one of the porta potties.

Racer 1 now has momentum. His legs shuffling at break neck speed .

Almost daring the other racers.

Racer 2 has regained his cognition and has now reentered the race.

Racer 4 is out of the porta potty and still using vocal cues

and seems to be actually using steps!

Wait, all of a sudden, at break neck speed, racer 3 has taken the lead,

His meds must have just kicked in!

He appears to be riding a dopamine high and experiencing a perfect ON

Racer 2 is consistently shuffling forward.

We have lost sight of racer 1!

Our over head drone has video of him pulling over into a porta potty .

We have an update on racer 1.

He’s had to pull out of the race. Claiming constipation!

And

Down, the stretch they come!

It’s racer 3 crossing first.

Wait a minute ,

Racer 2 has brought out his walking stick.

It has him swinging his arms at a frantic pace!

It’s racer 2, now it’s racer 4

Now It’s racer 2 fervently using his stick !

Can he hold off racer 4

NO!!!

It’s racer 4 by a nose.

There you have it

In order of finish

Racer 3 finishes first

Followed by

Racer 4 in 2nd

Racer 2 in 3rd

And a DNF- did not flush

For racer 1

The winning time was recorded as 43.5 shakes of a lambs tail!

With Racer 3 winning the coveted

James Bond Golden Martini Glass

That completes our race coverage and we send you back to the studio.

Have fun and be a Warrior
