I don’t often join certain causes or movements.
However. since my diagnosis with Parkinson’s there is one movement that has become increasingly important to me.
The Bowel movement!!!!
Hey did I miss the memo?
When I was told that Parkinson’s was a movement disorder I thought they meant mobility in my limbs and extremities, not in the mobility of my intestines!!
Few issues I have had to come to terms with:
1: How did Parkinson’s shorten my arms? I can’t seem to reach where I have to wipe anymore!
2: my understanding of Constipation. One can have a loose stool but if you can’t completely empty your bowel that is still constipation.
3: how quickly the urge can come upon you. You could be debating Einstein’s theory of relativity, when Bang! In an instant you are excusing yourself and dashing to the nearest restroom. Axe in hand in case you have to beat down a door. There is no waiting, your bowel or bladder has spoken and it’s screaming NOW!!!!
4: How I carry a backpack with a roll of toilet paper and a change of clothes. I feel like a super hero.
However phone booths are harder to find. And unlike Superman’s “look it’s a bird it’s a plane” which is kinda catchy,
“oh shit , its Feces Man” Just doesn’t seem the same
5: your modesty has gone to hell in a hand basket. As long car rides find you baring your “soul” on the side of the road.
6: you find out how low some toilets are. When your own toilet seems four feet higher than any where else. You seem to be free falling onto the toilet seat. When you finally reach the seat the only words you can utter are “ Tranquility Base. The Eagle has landed!”
7: how Parkinson’s has effected my cognitive awareness. It’s gotten so bad I now have to wear a hat every time I sit on a toilet, just to remind me what end I have to wipe!
Have fun and be a Warrior
