Don’t Learn to Fall, Learn to Bounce

Diagnosed : May 25/ 2012 Video: July 23/2023

For us Parkies we know that some day it is going to happen.

It is an eventuality!

We are going to Fall.

However ,if we can learn why and what caused us to fall.

We can learn how to recover from it.

So our story will be;

It’s not how hard we fell

It’s about how high we will bounce !

We must be a realistic in our dealings with our Parkinson’s.

Understanding the limits that our “Off times” place upon us, will put even more emphasis,

Utilizing those windows of opportunities called, our “On times !”

There’s is a certain amount of Frustration, at being evaluated on how and what we expose to others in those short moments of time, and having them think our whole day is like that.

Made even more Frustrating when that opinin is made from someone on our medical team.

Be it a Physical therapist , our GP or God forbid , our Neurologist !

Regardless of whether we are “ON “ or “OFF” at that time .

This fight we are in against Parkinson’s is, in my opinion, more like a sports

competition.

This competition requires us to have an offensive game plan, a defensive game plan and most importantly how quickly we can transition between the two.

We are not soldiers we are Parkie Athletes!

Definition of athlete :

“one who participates in an organized team or individual sport that requires regular competition against a central opponent that places a high premium on excellence and achievement, and requires some form of systematic (and usually intense) training.”

Put me in coach

A successful athlete must know how to get the best from their body.

Diet, vision, self talk, goal setting, communication, conditioning. Strength training, tactics are just some of the skill sets that we must try and excel at.

However all those attributes must have a starting stance.

A starting stance that puts us into a postural position of not only one of balance. But one that will enable us to have a powerful gait as we move about,

How do we find that starting stance?

Well that will require another post,

Til then,

Have fun and be a warrior
