Gait, Balance and Posture

Our ability to move, think and communicate, is dictated by 8 senses.

These 8 senses do not act in isolation but they are a part of a complex system that must work together so we may achieve balance and Postural Stability .

Our Parkinson’s messes with this balance, either by interfering or by eliminating how these senses interact with each other.

Our Parkinson’s tries to make us live a Sedentary lifestyle

We go for comfort over the uncomfortable .

If we struggle at something or it hurts we most often search for the quick fix .

This quick fix, causes issues over the long term.

It has caused us to give up or stop doing even the Simplest of movement.

Things like putting on our shoes and lacing them up.

We opt for slip on shoes or slippers. Footwear that offers little support and probably does more to cause us to fall ,by the way they interact with our ability to move.

Loose fitting baggy attire! Easy to put on but actually hinder our movement.

Short term gain, that overtime creates long term pain.

The reason we fall is usually caused by a weakness in the chain of events that we use to move.

Our movement has a start and an end. In between we use a multitude of data and information that we must process.

Where and how is this data collected.

We use information provided by our touch ( toes & feet, fingers & hands)

Our hearing (ears)

Our vision(eyes)

Our communication ( voice)

Our cognitive thought( brain)

Our ability to move ( muscle & bone)

Any exercise we do must be to strengthen all of these areas, not just muscle mass!

Muscle mass alone, does little if our lack of mobility and balance lies elsewhere.

Hell it could be a mental issue.

We fear falling because we have continued to work on an area that that didn’t address the cause of our falling in the first place.

So we continue to fall, our mental approach weakens and we now have two areas of weakness and we fall more often!

There seems to be no consensus on anything in regards to Parkinson’s.

The uniqueness that is our Parkinson’s makes this so.

So we must question everything and everyone , that we accept into our team.

What do they bring to the table?

Will try and explore the exercises And the reasons, why I do what I do, in the next posting.

Until then,

Have fun and be a warrior
