Your life is unwritten

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

Parkinson’s or not

Your life is unwritten

choices made In your life will

Determine What will be written

Don’t let the words Of others define you

Stand up, be determined

Take charge Let your actions

Your words, Define you!

A Parkie conundrum

I exercise so that I don’t have to take drugs to ease my pain.

Yet, I take drugs to ease my pain so that I can exercise!

From what I understand

the only thing proven to delay or in some cases

reverse Parkinson’s is …

EXERCISE

The drugs at best treat symptoms.

Treating symptoms actually means

they help you cope with Parkinson’s.

To me, that means When the drugs kick in

when I am coping well, That’s when I exercise !

What you use to treat and cope

With your Parkinson’s

Is a decision you must make

Sure you evaluate the opinions from your support and medical teams.

Hopefully it is an informed decision?

I find that I am more focused

More committed

When the decision Is mine.

So if we can own up

in our decision making.

Let’s do the same

For how we Exercise !

Understanding: What we have to work on

Why we have to work on it

How we are to do it

When we should do it

Where can we do it

Can help us devise

A plan that we may

Actually use through out the day at home.

We must exercise

With a purpose

With as much attention

To detail as possible

With Fatigue being an issue in Parkinson’s

Doing an exercise While being fatigued

Can cause defects In our execution

These defects in our execution can actually do more harm

To us than good

We are not exercising To be a better athlete

We are exercising So that we can

Slow down the progression Of a disease

And provide us An opportunity

to have a better life

There is a lot we can do During a day

15 minutes here, 25 minutes there.

Years ago When I was running

I was asked What was my workout Routine ?

My reply was

“I didn’t really Have one”

My routine was In my life’s routine.

I walked when I could

Rode my bike if it was to far walk

I curled, I danced, I ran, I hiked

I played ball, I coached Hockey

Even today When I had My ON Times

I shoveled gravel And moved it By wheelbarrow

I cut grass for Two hours

I realize Not everyone Has these opportunities

However, we all have

Times when We could walk on our heels To the bathroom

Sing in shower

My videos Tire me out

I try and use visual, mental

Oral and physical Skills

All in a 3 to 4 minute span

Living with Parkinson’s is all

About adaptation And creativity

The remainder Of your life,

is still unwritten!

Your ending, unplanned.

So with the Pen in your hand

Start writing!

Have fun and be a warrior
