Ooh la la: Rod Stewart

The day I was introduced to my new roommate, Parkinson’s.
How time flies when you can’t sleep and you shake all the time.
Here are some tips to those of you who are newly diagnosed.
You will hear the phrase,
You won’t die from Parkinson’s.
That may be true, however
You may die BECAUSE of Parkinson’s.
Don’t hold back, Announce your diagnosis to the world
This is the best way to reduce the effects of stress and anxiety.
This allows you the freedom to talk about it openly.
Join support groups, talk to any one and everyone.
Doing this will introduce you to some wonderful people, new ideas.
It will also show you the strengths and weaknesses in the people that are currently in your life,
Not everyone will react positively to your diagnosis.
That doesn’t mean you should rid them from your life.
They were there for a reason before . That reason might still be prevalent today.
If you aren’t active, get active.
Motion is lotion.
Don’t give up doing things
Because you’ve heard or read that Parkinson’s might effect this or that.
Make Parkinson’s Prove it first!
Parkinson’s is like any other bully. It will fade back into the shadows when confronted face on.
But it is still there,
Waiting to pounce
waiting for you to present a moment of weakness in the future that it could exploit
Learn about the disease and pay attention to how it treats you.
Take ownership, make the Parkinson’s inside you ,
YOUR Parkinson’s!
I usually talk about as it’s own entity,
I have begun a new relationship
My Parkinson’s and me.
Like any other relationship
It will be a constant exchange of give and take.
Rules and guidelines,
yet these rules and guidelines are just that, rule and guidelines.
There are times they should be pushed and challenged.
And maybe even changed.
Learn that there is no right or wrong way .
Believe me when I say you will recognize, when you’ve made a bad choice.
But you will learn that it might be a bad choice physically but it might the best choice mentally
Time as it passes, will usually demonstrate the right from wrong.
But this is actually no different from your pre diagnosed life.
There are NO experts on Parkinson’s!
There are however a lot of people with different levels of experience in Parkinson’s .
So in living with MY Parkinson’s,
I will take a bit from column A
a bit from column B
I shake them all about
And voila,
We have the Hokey Parkie
But I think I have covered that previously ![]()
Have fun and be a warrior
