If you have listened to me long enough you know how frustrated I am with the onus on the ” PHYSICAL” in physical therapy in dealing with Parkinson’s.
Some times I feel that I have been blessed to have worked and/or around the Sports culture.
For as much as it can be stubborn and mule headed it doesn’t seem to hold a candle to the medical culture.
At least I hope it is them and not me?
There is little attention paid to, or at least expressed about, the Neural Hierarchy and the role it plays in movement to the participating Parkie.
Physio is not about getting us to perform better athletically , it is about using it as a tool therapeutically so that we can move better.
What is the Neural Hierarchy
Visual
Vestibular
Proprioceptive
Things like 4 P’s of Practice, the quiet eye, self talk, visualization, etc. seem to all be secondary to getting your heart rate up.
Again I am not against that.
I am However, against the Priority it takes in the Treatment of our symptoms.
Please watch the Video and see if it makes sense to you.
If so, talk to your Physio therapist about your treatment plan.
More importantly, remember to
Have fun and be a Warrior
