Balance and feet

Your feet

play a major role

in your balance

They play a role

in not only your balance

but in your strength of movement

When you exercise

try exercising in your bare feet or at least in your socks.

Balance actually requires information sent from the feet into the brain that will be processed and interpreted

Into an action that the body will try to incorporate.

Our choice of Footwear

Can, no will

interfere with this process.

Big clunky shoes

equals clunky movement

Shoes that are ill fitted,

that allow your feet to slip

and move about in them,

will also provide

poor input data to the brain.

Sometimes choosing shoes

that are easier to put on and off may actually be

more of a detriment

in our daily lives

than a benefit .

Watch closely in the new Michael J Fox movie ,”Still”.

The portion where he falls ,

his shoe comes off as he falls.

When we walk

the footwear should

stay in full contact

with our feet.

From our toes to our heels.

Put your shoes on ,

from a sitting or standing position,

with your feet flat ,

flex your ankle

so that you are putting pressure on your toes

while lifting your heel.

Did the heel of your shoe

stay connected to the heel of your foot?

Or do you feel a gap?

A slight pocket ,

between the heel of your shoe from the heel of your foot.

That gap

can play havoc with us.

For how do we walk as Parkies?

Usually we shuffle,

a shuffle usually

has us on our toes

not leading with our heels.

Each shuffle we take

this gap

between the heel of our shoe from the heel of our foot

Puts us at risk.

So the shoe we choose

must fit us differently

From someone who walks,

More consistently heel to toe

Than we do.

So slip on shoes

Maybe easier to put on.

Are they a good “ fit”

For us Parkies?

Don’t look at laces

As an inconvenience.

Use them as an exercise

A task

In dexterity?

Laces allow the shoe

To conform

To our feet

Better and longer

Don’t pick

A heavy shoe.

We want to be able to move

It’s not a weight exercise

It’s about mobility.

Pay attention to the sole

Does it allow you to

Move freely while still providing

A good grip

Does it allow

Your feet the ability

To provide the best

Data to your brain ?

Our feet and foot wear

Play a vital role

In our ability to move

As our Parkinson’s

Progresses

Our attention to

The ordinary

Must increase.

I can feel it

Deep down

Into my

Sole

Have fun and be a warrior
