Trans Canada Trail Challenge

An April 2025 Parkinson’s Awareness Initiative!

You don’t look like you have Parkinson’s

The above is a statement that is often used by others to try and make us Parkey’s, feel better.

And actually this is what we strive to achieve. To look normal.

However this look is often a facade!

It’s a fools paradise !

For me my days are now not measured by comparing my ON periods to my OFF periods.

My life is now one of Transition.

A good day is now determined by how hard I fall from an ON time.

And how much I can minimize those OFF times.

It seems I now accumulate things to help me physically, yet the space they occupy, visually , remind me that My Parkinson’s is progressing.

I now have a hospital bed, a walker, various massage devices.

This past month three of my fellow warriors have succumbed to this disease.

There was a time that I felt that, My Parkinson’s was struggling to persevere.

I don’t quite have that feeling anymore. I now find that it is usually me that is struggling to persevere.

It seems that my life, my future still has goals and ambitions that I want to see happen, I still dream of achieving them, but the reality is that I probably won’t.

I find that I live my life vicariously through the actions of my family and friends.

I now talk a better game than I live.

The Month of April is Parkinson’s Awareness month.

So I have come up with a plan , an activity shall we say, that I hope I can have your support in accomplishing.

Many years ago Sue and I holidayed in Newfoundland with our good friends , the Maguire’s.

We hiked around Grosse Morne National Park.

I’m still frustrated that I didn’t do the hike up the mountain.

So I’m asking you the reader, you my Family, you my friends to help me achieve another goal of mine.

In order to bring awareness to Parkinson’s , together with you I want us to hike the the Trans Canada trail.

This will be a video montage of this event, this 29000 kilometre hike.

If we all do a piece we can join our piece with a piece of a co-walker.

So starting April 1, 2025 I promise to make a video a day Promoting this venture.

What I require from you is for you to do a Pictorial record so that myself and others can witness your part of the trail.

So can you please do the following,

1: the part of the trail you walked

2: the distance you walked

3: a picture of your starting point

4: 3 pictures of the trail

5: a picture of your finishing point

6: your name

7: the name of the Parkie you are dedicating your walk for.

So get out your walking shoes, let’s demonstrate our awareness for Parkinson’s, with our Participation!

Remember to Have fun and be a Warrior!

Let the Trans Canada Trail challenge begin!!!!
